OVERVIEW

Escape the heat of summer and chase the endless winter south of the equator. Bariloche Argentina is the mecca of South American skiing. During this trip the itinerary is customized based on weather. There is a variety of types of skiing we can do in the area even on storm days. Our main goal is to spend 5 days at the Refugio Frey hut. This hut is gorgeous with steep granite spires and couloirs surrounding it. Inside the hut we get 3 meals a day, a warm place to sleep, and a place to dry our gear. The hut is a half day tour from the ski area, and we are sure to have an amazing experience.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Who is this for?

This is for people who want to chase the endless winter and ski powder in August. During this trip we will be dining on Argentine cuisine and immersing ourselves in the South American ski culture.

What does my fitness need to be?

To enjoy this trip we recommend being able to ski 3000 – 3500 ft up and down per day. On our tour to the hut we will have 30-40 lb backpacks for 2 – 3 hours of travel.

What does my skiing skill need to be?

To enjoy the skiing around the hut one should be comfortable on black to double black diamonds at the resort. We will be skiing terrain up to 45 degrees.

What will I learn?

During this program you will learn about the Argentine culture and skiing in South America. We will cover Avalanche basics and ski mountaineering techniques. We will spend everyday dialing in all the nuances of backcountry skiing.
