OVERVIEW

The West Ridge of Forbidden Peak is one of the 50 classic climbs of North America. The route lives up to its reputation and is comprised of steep snow a small glacier and a long ridgeline which is graded 5.6. This is hands down one of the best routes in Washington and should be on every alpine climbers tick list. Along with the climb the views from Boston Basin are some of the best in the North Cascades. Day 1 is comprised of a skills day at a local crag followed by 2 nights and 3 days in the mountains.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

This is for people who want to experience a long technical rock climb in the mountains. You will be climbing with your hands and feet for most of the day on vertical to near vertical terrain.

To be successful at this climb you need to be able to carry a 40-50 lbs in your backpack while maintaining 1000 vertical feet an hour of elevation gain. You need to have the mental fortitude and fitness for a 12-14 hour summit day.

Basic balance and movement are required. We strongly recommend being able to top rope 5.9 in the gym. During day 1 of our program we will go over all the technical skills you need to safely climb the route.

Rock climbing movement technique, removal of rock anchors, rappelling, lead belaying, rope systems for short roping and short pitching, knot tying, multi pitch climbing technique and many more. If time permits we will take a deep dive into rock rescue etc. If you have these skills already please contact us and we can make this a 3 day Itinerary.

This climb is the test piece for alpine rock climbing in the lower 48. This route is great preparation for routes like the Matterhorn, Carstensz Pyramid  or more technical and difficult alpine rock climbs around the world.
